Spoken Word Expo
The Spoken Word Expo Aurora is a 3-day event from September 9-11th, 2010 that will bring the art of spoken word to our great city, educating and enlightening through entertainment, workshops/seminars and 'open mic' sets while utilizing this literary and expressive art form. The art of "spoken word" evolved from the oral tradition of free-style hip hop artists and poets and is written with the intention of being performed, not simply read. It emphasizes the tone of the human voice, which adds another layer of meaning and interpretation. Many poems in this genre include some form of social commentary. Our objective is to renew a love for the arts in Aurora and its surrounding communities. We strongly believe that introducing different art forms will spark a new literary movement while promoting understanding, increasing awareness, and facilitating discussion on a variety of issues that our youth and our community face, resulting in both community-wide and individual healing needed to move forward and grow.
